چکیده

Prototype ultrasonic NDT transducers for use in immersion in coolants for small modular reactors have shown low signal to noise ratio. The reasons for the limitations in performance at high temperature are under investigation, and include changes in component properties. This current work seeks to quantify the issue of thermal expansion and degradation of the piezoelectric material in a transducer using a finite element method. The computational model represents an experimental set up for an ultrasonic transducer in a pulse-echo mode immersed in a liquid sodium coolant. Effect on transmitted and received ultrasonic signal due to elevated temperature (~200C) has been analysed. © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Model-Assisted Approach for Probability of Detection (POD) in High-Temperature Ultrasonic NDE Using Low-Temperature Signals

Advanced piezoelectric-based ultrasonic transducers offer the potential for in-coolant nondestructive testing (NDT) measurements at high temperatures (HTs), including during hot standby (~260°C) for liquidsodium–cooled advanced small modular reactors. The reliability of the NDT measurements is typically quantified by the probability of detection (POD) measured at the corresponding temperature. ...

The Antagonistic Effect of Raised Salinity on the Aerobic Performance of a Rocky Intertidal Gastropod Nassarius deshayesianus (Issel, 1866) Exposed to Raised Water Temperature

Rocky intertidal organisms are facing pronounced fluctuations in environmental conditions even at small spatial and temporal scales. This heterogeneous habitat is a proper model system to investigate effects of physical parameters and their interactions on physiological performances of marine organisms. In the intertidal zone (especially in tidal pools), the temperature and salinity usually inc...

Thermal behavior of ethylene/1-octene copolymer fractions at high temperatures: Effect of hexyl branch content

In this work, the effect of hexyl branch content on thermal behavior of a fractionated ethylene/1-octene copolymer with emphasis on high temperatures was investigated. The ethylene/1-octene copolymer was carefully fractionated to different fractions with homogenous hexyl branch (HB) content by preparative temperature rising elution fractionation (P-TREF) method. The P-TREF fractions were therma...
